A personalised approach to real progress
Your English lessons should respond to the way you actually communicate — not force you through the same generic course as everyone else.

Imagine two people finishing the same English-level assessment. One walks into an international meeting and speaks confidently, but keeps making the same grammar mistakes. The other writes beautifully, then goes quiet when somebody asks an unexpected question.
They may have the same result on paper. They certainly do not have the same problem to solve.
One person may understand grammar well but struggle to speak confidently. Another may communicate easily but repeat the same small mistakes. A professional might need to sound sharper in meetings, while somebody else is preparing for IELTS, an interview or simply wants to feel more natural in conversation.
That is why I do not believe effective English coaching should be built around a textbook chapter alone. It should be built around the person using the English.
Your real English is the starting point
At Phillips English, I want to hear what you can already do, where your English becomes less natural, and what happens when you have to communicate without a script.
Your goals matter, but so does your actual performance. The way you speak gives useful information about what is already strong, what needs refinement and where a small change could make a noticeable difference.
This is particularly important for intermediate and advanced learners. Often, progress is not about learning hundreds of new grammar rules. It is about becoming more accurate, more natural and more confident with the English you already have.
The four stages give learning a clear rhythm. What matters is that the coaching responds to how you actually use English — and that we keep checking whether progress is carrying into real communication.
What would help each person most?
The fluent speaker might benefit from noticing and strengthening a few recurring patterns. The accurate writer might need more chances to respond spontaneously, organise a spoken answer and recover when the next word doesn't arrive immediately.
That's what interests me about individual coaching: we can focus attention where it actually helps. The aim isn't to collect corrections. It's to communicate better when the situation matters.
Mistakes are useful information
I do not see mistakes as something to simply mark wrong and move past. They help show us what deserves attention.
If something happens once, it may only need a quick correction. If the same problem keeps affecting your communication, it becomes more important. That means lesson time can stay focused on what will actually improve your English instead of repeatedly covering areas you already understand.
The aim is to use better English naturally when you are speaking, working, interviewing, presenting or communicating in real life.
Progress should be something you can feel
Good coaching should eventually make you less dependent on the teacher, not more dependent.
You should start noticing your own language, correcting yourself more quickly, expressing ideas with less hesitation and using new vocabulary without forcing it into the conversation.
That is the kind of progress I look for: not just whether you completed an activity, but whether your English becomes more independent.
Built around your goals
I have spent more than 13 years teaching English internationally, including building and running my own language centre and working with professionals from a wide range of industries and backgrounds.
Through Phillips English, I now bring that experience into private online coaching for Business English, IELTS, professional communication, interviews, presentations and confidence in conversation.
The topic may change. Your goals may change. Your weaknesses may change. The coaching should be able to change with them.
If your English is already good but does not always reflect your knowledge, experience or personality when you speak, a more personalised approach may be exactly what you need.
